AWS JIRA Integration: 2 Easy Steps

Do you use Jira to manage your projects? If yes, then you’d often be needing to store your project’s data files. Perhaps, you already use a self-owned server to do this. But while personal servers may seem convenient, they can cost quite a fortune.

Why spend so much on a self-owned server when you can get a secure & robust Cloud platform that offers customized servers at the cheapest rates? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an affordable Cloud platform that allows its users to scale and expand their Cloud-based system as they deem fit.

In this article, you’ll learn about Amazon Web Services and Jira, along with their respective features. You’ll also get to learn how to set up AWS JIRA Integration using AWS Connector.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a Cloud system that provides its users with servers, email, storage, and security tools. IT teams use AWS to store data files, build applications, and even send emails to their customers.

Usually, companies that use personal storage systems or servers pay high fees to keep operations running. However, AWS offers these systems at lower costs and charges businesses only for the extent of the services they use. In simple terms, AWS users enjoy a pay-as-you-go payment system.

The pay-as-you-go model lets software developers experiment with different infrastructures until they find the type that suits their needs. This way, even amateur programmers can meet their goals with minimal investments.

Some of the Services that AWS Offers are

  • Storage: AWS has a Simple Storage Service (S3) which offers scalable storage space for large Analytics and Data Backup files to IT teams. The maximum data limit for each file in an S3 bucket is 5 Gigabytes. Another storage service in AWS is the Amazon Elastic File System, which is built for users who want to share data files across several virtual computers. Unlike S3, the Elastic File System is more suitable for smaller data files.
  • Networking: The Amazon Virtual Private Cloud is the main tool for networking in AWS. This tool provides a virtual network that allows software developers to enjoy control over an isolated section of the Cloud. Other networking tools in AWS are Elastic Load Balancing, which manages traffic, and Amazon Route 53, which assigns a domain name to users.
  • Migration: You may already have your own server before learning about AWS. Amazon offers many migration tools which let you transfer your server and databases to the AWS Cloud. In addition, the system provides a Migration Hub where you can manage all migrations you make.
  • Messages and Notifications: With the Amazon Simple Notification Services (SNS), service desk agents can send messages to end-users. The Simple Email Service (SES) is for Marketers who want to send emails to their leads.

Jira is a Project Management application that allows IT, Customer Service, and Marketing teams to plan, delegate, track and organize tasks. This system offers roadmaps, reports, integrations, and agile boards to help teams manage their projects via a single platform.

Initially intended for software developers, Jira now offers packages that make the software accessible to non-IT teams.

Jira Offers the Following Packages to its Users

  • Jira Core: This is a tool designed for non-IT teams. If you belong to the HR, Finance, Marketing, or Legal department, you can use Jira Core to manage your tasks and organize your workflows. The main features of Jira Core are task management, for organizing simple tasks; Project management, for large tasks; and Process Management, for continuous tasks.

  • Jira Software: This package is built especially for IT teams. Alongside all the basic features of Jira Core, Jira Software also contains tools that enable Agile Project Management. You can use Jira Software to track bugs and manage simple software development tasks.
  • Jira Service Management: Previously known as Jira Service Desk, Jira Service Management lets Jira users communicate with their customers. The Jira Service Desk is used by call center managers, support professionals, and help desk agents to manage incidents and ticket issues.
