Mailchimp is one of the most famous and used email marketing software in the world. Founded in 2001 by Ben Chestnut and Dan Kurzius, Mailchimp has now more than 20 million users and its valued $4.2 billion. Here’s why it’s a good starting point for beginners: It’s easy to use, It has all the necessary features, It’s reliable and It’s free to start with.
This article provides two methods for Pipedrive Mailchimp Integration.
What is Mailchimp?
Mailchimp is a comprehensive email marketing platform that fulfills all your requirements of email correspondence with customers, affiliates, and other stakeholders. Unlike many other all-in-one marketing and automation platforms, Mailchimp is a web-based application. This means you can use it just like a website on any web browser without needing to download and install a heavy software program on your devices.
Apart from facilitating your email marketing with its logistical resources (mailing list management, template creation, segmentation, automation, etc.), Mailchimp also offers analytical features so that you can determine how you have been faring with your email.
Mailchimp is free software (that costs money once your subscriber list gets larger) where you can create, send and manage newsletters. Let’s define a few terms before we go any further:
- Subscriber: This is someone who’s said “yes” to wanting to receive emails from you. This is typically done when they sign up for your list from a form on your website or if they purchase a product from your digital store.
- Mailing-list: this is where subscriber email addresses are stored, think of it as a group of people who’ve opted into getting emails from you.
- Newsletter: this is a type of email you send from Mailchimp to your list. Newsletters can be either campaigns or automation.
Mailchimp works by letting you send infinite newsletters to infinite subscribers, which is useful because email providers like Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo limit how many people you can send emails to at any given time (typically about 20 people). Where Mailchimp is useful is that you can send to hundreds or even millions of people at the same time, the only limit being how many subscribers you’ve got on your list currently.
Features of Mailchimp
Established Business and Committed Founders
Going with a fledgling startup is always a risk because it might fold at any moment.
There’s something called Lindy Effect. It is a theory that says that the future life expectancy of a non-perishable thing is proportional to its current age. So, for example, if a company has been in business for one year, you can expect it to be in business for one more year, but if a company has been in business for 18 years like Mailchimp, you can expect it to stay in business for another 18 years.
This is an important consideration because an email marketing software provider going bust would disrupt your email marketing efforts which might cost you a lot of money in lost revenue.
Easy to Use, Has All the Necessary Features, Is Reliable
18 years in business also means that Mailchimp has a polished product.
Sure, the software is always a work in progress, but they have had the time to work out the user interface (though some would argue that there’s a lot of space for improvement there since learning how to use Mailchimp can take some effort), add necessary features, and ensure deliverability.
Free to start with
With MailChimp, you don’t have to pay anything until you reach 2,000 email subscribers, at which point you are probably making enough money from your list to justify the expense of upgrading to a premium plan.

First, you’ll need to create a list in Mailchimp (or use an existing one) by heading to Lists > Create List
Then, in Pipedrive, you use a filtered list based on the criteria of your segment group. Under Contacts > people, you simply apply the filter and export the contacts in that list by clicking on on the Mailchimp button in the footer.
To set up a filter based on criteria, you click on the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner of your Contacts > People tab and select create a new filter set.
For example, if you want to include only people who have open deals with high value in your email campaign, you add the conditions that the contact has open deals, and that the deal value is more than a specified amount. Then, you click on the Mailchimp button to export those contacts.
Back in Mailchimp, you simply use that list of contacts in your campaign.
