In this blog, we will take you through the 2 best methods of connecting Shopify and Mailchimp. It is important to note that earlier downloads of Mailchimp provided an in-built integration with Shopify, however, this facility is unavailable in the newer downloads.
Let’s take a look at the different methods that we can use to integrate Shopify and Mailchimp data:
Method 1: Using ShopSync
ShopSync is a free plugin that is used to move data from Shopify to Mailchimp. However, you must go through a series of steps to configure it.
Method 2: Using Mailchimp Site Code
This method is suitable for users with a background in programming. You will have to modify and use the code provided by Mailchimp.
Method 3: Using Hevo Data
Hevo is a fully managed no-code data pipeline that helps you integrate data from multiple free sources including Shopify and Mailchimp.

2. By Adding Mailchimp Code to Shopify
You can perform the Shopify-Mailchimp integration manually as well. Mailchimp’s site provides the necessary code to connect to your Shopify store. This method allows the use of pop-up forms as well as Google remarketing ads but does not allow you to access Mailchimp’s suite of e-commerce features like product recommendations and reports.
This task is suited to users with some background in coding.
Step 1: Get a custom website code
Follow the given steps, to get your site code in Mailchimp:
- Sign in to your Mailchimp account.
- Go to the Integrations page.
- Click on Custom Website tab in the Custom Website section.
- Enter your website’s URL in the Enter site URL field.
- Click on the Select audience to connect drop-down menu, and choose an audience.
- Click on the Get Code option.
- Copy the code to your clipboard.
Next, you’ll have to add the custom website code to your Shopify store.
Step 2: Paste custom website code in Shopify
- In a new browser tab or window, sign in to your Shopify account.
- Click on the Online Store drop-down and click on Themes. You will find this option in the left navigation menu.
- On the Themes page, click on the Actions drop-down menu and click on the Edit code option.
- To edit the header code, click on {/}header.liquid.
- Paste your code right before the closing < /header> tag.
- Once finished with this, go back to the Integrations page in Mailchimp and click on Check Connection.
You’re done! After you verify your connection, you’ll be able to see a confirmation message after which you will be redirected to the details page for your site.
Once you have successfully added the Mailchimp site code to your store, you will be able to access certain tools from the site details page. These include product retargeting emails, pop-up signup forms, Google remarketing ads, and more.
